Sound Bath in Santa Cruz
Once a month, seven recliner chairs fill up in a small studio at 1010 Fair Ave on the Westside — and for one hour, Santa Cruz slows down. A sound bath at SoulEssence is an immersion in the tones of quartz crystal singing bowls, played live by Sandra Virostko. You don't need to do anything. You recline, you're handed a weighted eye pillow and a blanket, and the frequencies do the rest.
What is a sound bath?
A sound bath is a guided listening experience — not music, exactly, but waves of sustained tone that wash over you. Quartz crystal singing bowls each carry a distinct frequency, and because the human body is mostly water, those frequencies travel through you easily. Through a phenomenon called sympathetic resonance, the vibration of one object invites another to match it — and the nervous system settles toward coherence: the state where everything works together, the same calm you feel near the ocean or in a quiet forest. That's the science; the experience is simpler. Most people describe deep rest, some drift into sleep, and everyone leaves slower and softer than they arrived.

Your guide
Sandra Virostko came to sound healing from science. She studied physics, spent her career in medical imaging — she supervises imaging operations, and MRI is her favorite modality — and she needs to know how something works in order to trust what it does. That's exactly why she plays quartz crystal bowls. She is certified through the Breath+Oneness Temple of Light Crystal Bowl Certification Program (Capitola, 2026).
